Review – Fuel 100 Electro-Bites

Electro BitesFor the latest review, I wanted to continue the thought of both endurance athleticism and nutrition. As a former powerlifter, I realize that endurance athletes need nutrition at a different time than sprint based or performance exercises. Electro Bites fills the gap for long term endurance and replaces the gooey gel based supplements as well as some of the sweets that are not good for an athlete in the long run (Pun intended).

Background

As it has been said, “necessity is the mother of invention”. It is the same with Fuel 100 and their fantastic Electro Bites. What has truly saturated the market are the pouches of gels that do a fairly good job but they are filled with so much sugar that they really become more of a detriment. Sure they get the job done, but we should weigh the cost.

What was needed was a solid product that works similarly to the aforementioned but can dissolve easily in your dry mouth. Additionally, all athletes desire variety in flavors as well as electrolyte replacement. These qualities are not offered by any other product on the market.

Electro Bites – The Flavors

Fuel 100 offers Electro Bites in five different flavors: Simply Salty, Salty Vinegar, Salty Vanilla, Apple Cinnamon, and of course Pumpkin Spice. Although I am not a Pumpkin Spice fan (oh the horror), I ripped the top off of the enticing pack first. I thought it was not too bad.

However, I opened the Simply Salty and Salty Vinegar ones on the next run and quickly became a fan. Simply Salty reminds me of a regular potato with a little light salt on it. Now keep in mind, the potato dissolved quickly in my mouth which made it seem more powdery, but the flavor was great. That being said, it was not even close to my favorite as Salty Vinegar took that prize.

I did find the Salty Vanilla a little on the odd side while Apple Cinnamon had a good flavoring. In my opinion, the biggest hurdle to overcome is the fact that each of these dissolve into a type of powder once you put them in your mouth and bite. That is not a bad thing but for someone that is not ready for it, there is a mild mental shock. Yes, I tested it out on unsuspecting athletes as well.

The Effects

Keep in mind, Electro Bites is designed to replenish electrolytes, including sodium in the body. Each 100 calorie pack contains 190mg of sodium, 55mg of potassium, and 45mg of magnesium which gives me exactly what is needed both during and after a workout or run.

One major benefit of the Electro Bites was the recovery time. Because it is made with all natural ingredients, my body was able to process them easier and workout recovery time was shortened an average of 20 minutes. This allowed me to move on to the next thing in my day without having to take the extra 20 minutes to recuperate.

Since they are designed to reduce and possibly eliminate the need for other electrolyte replacements, I was pleased with the prospect of me reducing my overall nutrition budget.

Final Thoughts

While each person ultimately has to determine how their body works with a nutritional product, I feel the Electro Bites would benefit athletes at every level regardless of sport. I gave some to one of my softball players and we determined she needed to try them post practice or game. I plan to also try them on my heavy weight lifting workouts to see how they stack up.

Until then,
