Bugout Coffee Review

Bugout Coffee

Earlier this year, I was given the opportunity to do a review on Bugout Coffee. I was not able to accomplish this as quick as I would have liked simply because just as the package arrived, we were packing up the house to move.  I am thankful to both Jay and Jenny Blake for allowing me the extension needed to get settled in the house before providing this review.

The Background:

Bugout Coffee is Organic Fair Trade Coffee from South America. What does this mean to you and me?

  • Fair trade coffee is coffee that is certified as having been produced to fair trade standards. Fair trade organizations create trading partnerships that are based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. – wikipedia

  • This means we are not paying for illegal slave operations in order to enjoy a good cup of coffee.

After starting their successful retail business, Jay and Jenny Blake decided to take it to the next phase by combining their love for coffee and being self reliant. This led to the beginning of bugoutcoffee.com and after a successful Kickstarter Program, Bugoutcoffee.com has started growing by leaps and bounds. Their mission is to “Get Bugout Coffee™ into the hands of Survivalists, Preppers, Campers & Sportsmen everywhere!”. And with the hashtagged slogan of “#dontbugoutwithout” I am happy to help with that venture.

The Coffee:

I had the dark roast which provided a nice woody flavor with a slight note of chocolate due to the roasting. After opening the resealable bag, the smell lingered in the air for what seemed like an eternity. This was a definite plus in my book.

They also provided me with Dark Chocolate covered coffee beans. This is one of my favorite sweet indulgences and I was both surprised when opening the box and elated with the flavor. While espresso beans usually have a bite to them, these were normal coffee beans which provided a milder and sweeter flavor.

With the focus of being Awake, Alert and Alive, I will definitely add Bugout Coffee to my preps and for my food storage shelf. Additionally, I will be adding it to my Bug Out Bag (BOB) simply because I do not want to have caffeine withdrawals and the headache that comes with them, should it be The End Of The World As We Know It. The lightweight, resealable bag helps to ensure both freshness and keeps my pack easy to carry which will be especially beneficial for my upcoming camping trip.

Make sure you read the story about the military and caffeine on their about page. http://www.bugoutcoffee.com/about.html

Until then,
