Book Review – A Guide to Sheltering-in-Place by Zion Prepper

sheltering in placeI was very happy to receive Bryan Foster’s latest book, A Guide to Sheltering-in-Place: Don’t be scared, Don’t panic, Shelter-in-Place (SIP). To start with the latest in the Prepper’s Survival Guide Series is very informative and breaks everything down into easy to understand terms and meanings. At only 78 pages, the book gets straight to the point. Zion Prepper has definitely become one of my favorite Prepping teachers. He uses stories of real world examples and current events to explain each point and to definitely drive it home for clarity. This method of teaching is an age old tradition dating back to parables used in the Bible and it still works today.

We open to understanding the definition of sheltering in place, the reader is then taken through Why, When, and Where to SIP. This alone is informative and worth the price of the book but Mr. Foster takes it a couple of steps further. He revisits the Survival Triangle©, discussed as the First Tenet in his previous book, The Prepper’s Survival Guide: An Introduction to Prepping and a Guide to FIRE.

I will not get into the details of the Survival Triangle© as that is the author’s job in both books, but it does shine new light to the subject of prepping and even more to the importance of it in survival.

The final three chapters focus on the breakdown of exactly what is recommended to actually Shelter in Place and lays it out in a simple fashion of, “here’s what works”. There is some leniency to the list because the recommendation is at a high level of what you need for some things and we are allowed to fill in the specifics. An example is you need a flashlight. It is up to the reader to decide if they want a light from the dollar store or a $50 D-Cell Maglite. Both are considered flashlights.

The guidelines Bryan gives along with the “How long should I SIP” brings it to life. It takes the teaching from earlier in the book and provides real world examples of when it should be used in day-to-day life, i.e.. Carnival Cruise Lines.

I will say, I am excited to go and read the aforementioned Prepper’s Survival Guide, but A Guide to Sheltering-in-Place opened my eyes to quite a bit. This is helpful in the aspect of life regardless of where you physically are located.

The Specifics:

  • 78 Pages
  • Currently: $9.89 for paperback and $5.99 for Kindle edition

I leave you with a simple note: Go buy the book!

Until then,

Use your instincts to survive
